Vertigo ride

The streets of Stamford have been alive this week with all the fun of the fair!

It was an honour to lead the traditional mayoral procession from the Town Hall to the Waltzers on Broad Street on Monday, officially opening the Mid-Lent Fair with the ringing of the bell!

I was delighted to be joined by my Mayoress Lois Simpson, members of the 2071 Stamford Squadron Air Cadets, councillors from Stamford Town Council, representatives from The Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain, the Chairman of South Kesteven District Council — and of course, Stamford’s wonderful Poet Laureate, Caroline Avnit, who shared a specially written poem to mark the occasion.

There’s nothing quite like the joy, colour and community spirit of the fair — and it was fantastic to be back again this evening enjoying it with friends (including a spin on Vertigo… not for the faint-hearted although the views were amazing!).

Tonight was the final night of the fair in Stamford — it will return next year!
