Supporting our businesses

Stamford thrives because of its hardworking local businesses. Whether it’s the independent shops that line our streets, the small enterprises working behind the scenes, or the local makers and market traders who bring colour and creativity to the town—our business community is central to our identity and economic success.

I’ve always believed that local government should be a partner to business. That means being proactive—listening, supporting, and creating the conditions where businesses can grow and succeed.

If re-elected, I will continue to push for targeted investment to support Stamford’s business economy. This includes ensuring that local traders have access to practical support, grants, and advice, as well as backing efforts to attract more visitors and shoppers into our town.

Groups like Shop Stamford are doing an incredible job promoting the town, showcasing our unique offer, and helping drive footfall—and I’ll continue to advocate for the funding and resources they need to build on that success.

But we also need to think long-term. I want to see Stamford positioned as a hub of opportunity—where new businesses want to start, and existing ones want to stay and grow. That means investing in digital infrastructure, supporting flexible workspaces, and helping businesses adapt to the challenges of a changing economy.

With the right support, Stamford’s businesses can continue to lead the way—creating jobs, building community pride, and keeping our local economy strong.
