Preserving our heritage

I am passionate about Stamford’s rich history and remarkable heritage—it’s what makes our town so special. From its historic buildings and cobbled streets to its timeless skyline, Stamford has a unique character that deserves to be protected and celebrated.

A shining example of what can be achieved is the recent restoration of the Old Bank. Congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this iconic building back to life. It’s not only a beautiful piece of architecture, but also a symbol of how we can sensitively modernise while respecting the past. This revitalised space adds real value to the town and stands as a testament to the care and pride we all have in our shared heritage.

But we can’t take any of it for granted. Stamford’s charm draws visitors from far and wide, and we must ensure that any development enhances rather than detracts from its historic character. That means supporting conservation efforts, standing up against inappropriate proposals, and investing in the repair and upkeep of our most treasured buildings and public spaces.

By working together—with Stamford Civic Society, planners, and the wider community—we can keep Stamford beautiful, distinctive, and thriving for generations to come.
